I began working as a freelance illustrator in 1986 and since 1990 have created over 1600 commissioned freelance images. Markets include Advertising, Editorial and Animation Background illustrations, as well as an eclectic mix of commissions from individual collectors. Some of the well known clients I have created work for include The New York Times, Random House, St. Martin's Press, Scholastic, Qwest, Merck, Pfizer, Virgin, Chiquita and The Discovery Channel.
Although I am a traditional artist I do use the computer (mac G5 and Adobe CS2) to convert traditionally created artwork into digital files and make necessary adjustments for reproduction ready files.
For me, the division between fine art and illustration in my work is not easily defined as there is often a great deal of overlap. I use the term "fine art" to describe art I create without incentive or input from outside commercial influences.
Formally trained at Pasadena City College and Art Center College of Design, I graduated with art degrees from these institutions in 1982 and 1986 respectively. I have no set agenda to promote with the content of my art or set formulas in the execution of that expression. My art is is simply a documentation of my thoughts and experiences encountered on my personal journey interpreted through the creative lens. Current fashion, taste and political correctness are not considerations for me in the creation of my art.
